The People of Ireland for RTEJunior

The 1916 song 'The People of Ireland,' composed by the children to commemorate 1916, will be aired on RTE Junior this Saturday and Sunday (26th and 27th March). The show starts at 9 am. The song will be aired in the second half of Saturday's show and in the first 20 minutes of Sunday's show. So don't forget to tune in. Lá Glas 2016

To celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge, in preparation for St. Patrick's Day, children participated in many fun Irish-based activities on the Lá Glas. We had some Céilí Dancing, Irish sports such as Gaelic, St. Patrick's Day art and some ceol agus craic.

Time Capsules

When the formalities of Proclamation Day were over every pupil in the school buried a time capsule containing many aspects of their lives today. Each child buried their own unique bottle. We hope to invite everyone back in 2026 to open the capsules.

Proclamation Day in Redhills

A group from the Clones Community Forum visited and re-enacted what it was like for children in schools during 1916 on Monday. The GP room was transformed into a replica of classrooms from that era. Our pupils were dressed in appropriate attire reflecting the lifestyle of 1916. This hands on reflection on history was enjoyed by pupils, parents, staff and the wider school community. We, the pupils of St. Brigid’s National School, in the year 2016, and representative of all of the children in Ireland, do solemnly declare our hopes and dreams for the future of our nation.
