Supporting your Child`s move from Primary to Post Primary School

This information is for the attention of all parents but will be of particular interest to parents of children in 5th and 6th class, it would be great if you could please circulate.

National Parents Council Primary are running free online interactive workshops on “Supporting your Child`s move from Primary to Post Primary School”.

We would like to offer the parents of children in 5th and 6th class an opportunity to take part in one of our virtual training programmes.

Every year, more than 50,000 children in Ireland move from Primary to Post Primary education. It is a time of many challenges for children and for parents. For children, changes can be emotional, physical, and academic. They go from being senior in their Primary school to junior in their Post Primary School.  They have to manage a broader range of subjects and subject options, more teachers, more homework, longer school days, new friends, bigger school and very often their parents’ anxiety. For parents their challenges can range from choosing the school that best suits their child’s needs, to issues such as subject options, bullying, new relationships, friendships, homework, finance, and their child’s anxiety.

This session will look at:

  • Choosing a school for your child
  • Preparing your child for post primary school
  • Subject choice
  • School Policies
  • Home school communication
  • People you might meet in post primary school
  • Parent/Teacher meetings

The sessions are taking place online next week via Zoom at 10am Monday to Friday, and 8pm on Monday to Thursday.
