We had a 'flipping' great day. Each child in the school was treated to pancakes, which were made by Anne Marie.

Ash Wednesday
Thank you to Mrs Burns, Eileen and Jacinta for their help in organising today's ceremony to celebrate Ash Wednesday. As part of the ceremony pupils learned about the Lent 2020 Trócaire campaign. There will be a Trócaire box at reception during Lent accepting donations to support their campaign.

Covid-19
The Department of Education and Skills has updated information for schools, preschools and third level institutions on Covid-19; provided by the Department of Health and HSE Health Protection Surveillance Centre following a meeting of the National Public Health Emergency Team.
Anyone who has been to affected regions in the last 14 days and has a cough, shortness of breath, breathing difficulties or fever should self-isolate and phone their GP immediately.
Anyone who has travelled from the affected regions and has no symptoms should visit http://www.hse.ie/ for advice.

Green School Travel Flag
The boys and girls in St.Brigid's National School have been working on the theme of Travel as part of the Green Schools programme. Our committee completed a walk-ability audit of the local area and all classes have been taking part in workshops with our Travel Officer Susan Doorley.

Sensory Set – Now on sale!
5th and 6th class have been working hard on developing their 'Sensory Set' as part of the Junior Entrepreneur Programme.
The Sensory Set is made up of a selection of different textures and breathing exercises. The target audience is children with autism, although it can be used by anyone. If you are interested in purchasing one of our sensory sets please email Ms.Fitzpatrick at kw@stbrigidsns.ie.

Tree Mural
The first leaves were placed on our Tree Mural today. 30 more will be added next week. So far we have raised €10,000. Based on the excellent response to this fundraising initiative, we plan to begin construction of the Multi Use Games Area (Astro Pitch & Walkway) on Monday 24th February. It is hoped that it will be complete and operational for all pupils from Monday 20th April 2020. Please continue to share information on this fundraiser with past pupils.

Operation Get To The Capital Of The Nation
Today all the boys and girls in St. Brigid's National School participated in our challenge 'Operation Get To The Capital Of The Nation'. This involved completing a variety of physical activities with the goal of clocking up 120km (the distance from our school to the RTE studios). We were visited by Operation Transformation leader and past pupil Lorraine O'Neill who joined in on the challenge and who also baked some healthy snacks with 5th and 6th class.

Infants Get Busy Baking!
There was great excitement this week as the boys and girls in junior and senior infants baked some delicious brown bread. This activity was linked to their learning of procedural writing in English and their story of the week The Little Red Hen.

JEP – Business visitor to the classroom
Jessica Kavangh, owner of 'Olann', an Irish wool company visited the 5th and 6th classroom to share her experience of how she became an entrepreneur. 5th and 6th class got lots of tips which they are going to use to help them advertise and sell their product, the 'Sensory Set'.
