A group from the Clones Community Forum visited and re-enacted what it was like for children in schools during 1916 on Monday. The GP room was transformed into a replica of classrooms from that era. Our pupils were dressed in appropriate attire reflecting the lifestyle of 1916. This hands on reflection on history was enjoyed by pupils, parents, staff and the wider school community.
Having visited the past, everyone was then treated to a flag raising ceremony outside to celebrate the present and envisage future for our community. Pupils read poems and sang songs to entertain the huge crowd in attendance. Members of the senior classes read their proclamation which outlined their hopes and dreams for Ireland. The Irish flag was then raised by Mrs. Maureen Hayes, Aoibhean Dunne and Dylan McDonald (youngest boy & girl in our school).
